MFFL football is back, 2020 style. The league continues on through uncertainty and adversity. Nothing is guaranteed in the MFFL, especially in a season such as this. Managers will have to keep their heads on a swivel and adjust to quick turns in fortune. The team that can handle adversity the best will most likely capture it all. In week 1, all the games are unpredictable and important, let's get it on.
1. The Coop's Return vs El Pollo Loco
Opening the 2020 season in the MFFL will be a new comer with a storied past. Coop's Return makes their triumphant return to fantasy football. They are have an unbelievable opportunity, to play with the big boys right from the jump. They are likely to face a learning curve but this franchise is too smart to be behind the pace for too long. Their first draft in years went well, capturing many big named studs for their starting lineup. Thomas, Wilson, Kupp, Jones, and Kittle form a formidable group, though their bench could be hazardous. They drafted only three RBs, and are currently rostering three TEs. It's an atypical move, but one that may benefit them were the pandemic to strike the NFL. A win in week 1 would be an unbelievable catalyst for success in what is expected to be a learning year for this blue blood manager. Back in the saddle again, oh how good it feels.
Loco is coming off their best finish in franchise history. Last year's runner up has shown steady improvement over the last four seasons, and they now find themselves in the top echelon of the league in terms of credibility. They made a massive trade the night of the draft, sending Adams packing for a haul that included Nuk and a bevy of RBs needed for depth. It is a good thing too, because their RB situation has only worsened since draft night, making the trade a wise and necessary move. Patrick Mahomes leads a group of accomplished stud WRs. The only question mark being their starting RB situation. This team has shown the ability to improve as the season progresses, as they are one of the more active managers in the league, so expect another year of battling from this stinky burrito franchise.
The match-up on paper is super close, as these two seem to be mirror images of each other. welcome back Coop, Loco hopes to make your first match-up full of pain. It's on.
2. Imposing Monstrosity vs Baker's Chubbin'
Stros captured the gold last year winning their first MFFL championship. It was a special season, led by Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey has been a member of each of the last 3 championship teams in the MFFL, but now Stros must face him in week one. Stros went all in on players who have yet to reach their full potential, which is always a good idea, but it leaves the roster looking slight on firepower to start the season. Stros doesn't care, as they will trust their research and trust their guys. If their young players hit, they will be a tough out all season long. Stros is attempting to do what only one franchise has done before, go back to back in the MFFL. That other franchise was TPD, who 3peated.
Baker has faced futility in the MFFL for many years. Their 1st round pick seems to always get hurt, but this year they are hoping McCaffrey can right the ship. No player helps a struggling franchise more than him. Their lineup looks good to start the year, but that is typical for anyone drafting 1st overall. The test will be how they handle the inevitable unlucky attack against their roster throughout the season.
2. The Glorious Morgans vs Unstopa-Bo
The Morgans are looking for a bounce back season. Before last year, they were on a ridiculous run, going 11-3 in 2017 and 2018. They went all in on RBs in the draft, securing probably the best value pick, Joe Mixon in the 3rd round. They are also going all in on the Buffalo Bills this year, with Allen, Diggs, Singletary, and Moss all members of their team. They sacrificed some depth to acquire JuJu from TPD, but the starting lineup is locked and loaded as long as their RBs stay healthy, and Juju and Beckham have bounce back years. It's never wise to doubt this franchise, especially coming off a down season. Look for a quick rebound.
After back to back (5-9) seasons, UB rebounded a year ago, winning the West division and a 3rd place finish. Perhaps the most unpredictable franchise in the league, they also frequently display the most unpredictable drafts. They selected Kelce in the 1st and Lamar in the 2nd, undoubtedly the most shocking moves of the entire draft. They are going all in on the Ravens. Their RBs are a veteran group but carry major question marks. UB has been knocking at the door for a championship, but has yet to capture it. This may be their year if their crazy strategy pays off.
2. La Flama Blanca vs The Real McCoy
LFB has yet to regain the magic of their early days success in the MFFL, though last year they did rebound a little finishing 2nd in the East division. It was a disappointing year overall though, as they had Lamar Jackson in his MVP season and only finished with a (.500) record. This year they drafted one of the oldest teams of all time, as their starting lineup is riddled with guys whose best days may very well be behind them. They also have the most injury prone RB core in the league. Major risks abound, but the talent is undeniable. If this team can make it through the season unscathed, they will be contenders.
McCoy had one of their worst season's in the MFFL a year ago finishing at (5-9), but it does little to tarnish their rich history. True to their themes, they drafted a fantasy expert's dream of a team, acquiring many guys with unquestioned hype entering the season. They are going all in on Kyler Murray, and they boast one of the best RB cores in the league entering the season. The WRs are solid, but lack fire power. Overall it has the looks of a classic McCoy team with lots of solid talent and depth. A return to battling for the West division crown is fully expected.
2. The Perpetual Dynasty vs GrabbingthemTDs
TPD finally didn't win a championship last year after three straight in 16',17', and 18'. It was inevitable, but they once again proved they are tops in the league, finishing (12-2) with stellar gameday managing throughout the season, with a lineup that at times lacked explosiveness. They are wheeling and dealing once again to start this season, and they of course have a bevy of elite WRs led by Hill and Adams. But surprising many this year was how many RBs they took in the draft. Their RBs are the best they have had to start a season in a very long time, led by Jacobs. TPD will likely do their thing once again, though nothing is certain. Perhaps no team is better at handling the uncertainty and frequent roster moves during a pandemic than them.
TDs battled last year to a (7-7) record. Had they displayed slightly better gameday managing and luck, they could have been a playoff team. After the 2020 draft they have one of the better starting lineups in the league, but it is not without flaws. They stacked Prescott and Zeke together, and Sanders and Ertz, which is interesting to say the least. Everyone in that lineup can ball though. It's a potent group. TDs has the feel of a franchise that is destined to break through soon. A win against TPD in week one would set that stage early.
Week 1 is here! Lets Go! Come On! AAAAHHHH!
