2017 Season Preview

The 2017 MFFL season is so close it is hard to believe. Training camps open in mere days, while the draft is just over 4 weeks away. It is time to ramp up research and intrigue. Here is a breakdown of the franchises as they head into 2017 MFFL football.

The Perpetual Dynasty
The league’s most accomplished franchise finally has the hardware to back up their prestigious history. Following their only season in which they failed to make the playoffs, TPD captured the title in 2016 behind yet another dominating squad. The MFFL history pages are packed with TPD accolades. They look to continue their strong play in 2017 and every franchise knows this team will be ready. Many are wondering what TPD will do with the 10th draft slot, especially after selecting 5 straight WRs to start their 2016 draft.

Unstopa-Bo
UB enters 2017 on the heels of two straight championship game defeats. Many wondered how the UB franchise would fair in 2016 after a championship appearance in 2015, and they responded with their best season to date in the MFFL, acquiring 10 wins in the regular season and the West division crown. They are gunning for an unprecedented 3rd straight championship game appearance.
No strangers to a late round pick, UB will strive for success from the 8th slot, after being the only team ever to make the playoffs picking from the 9th slot last season. This once downtrodden franchise is a force to be reckoned with in 2017.

The Real McCoy
McCoy has had at least 9 wins in each of their last 3 seasons and has made the playoffs 4 times in 5 years. They orchestrate a very balanced attack between drafting, trading, and free agency. Their moves are well thought out and typically successful. Even with two straight disappointing playoff efforts they seemed poised for more success in 2017. The only two time champion could further cement their legacy with another deep playoff run this season. This franchise is just good at what they do and very few changes to their approach are expected from this perennial titan. They had great success from the 7th draft slot last season and they draft there again this year.

The Advantageous Morgans
The Morgans are looking for their 3rd straight playoff appearance in 2017.Their appearance last year was remarkable, considering it was during a season in which they did not score over 114 points in a game until week 8. Their moves are often unique and atypical, but seemingly every year this franchise has a better team at the end of the season than they did at the beginning. After last season’s historic turn around, it is safe to never doubt this franchise’s capabilities over the course of a long season. Even after a playoff appearance, they somehow obtained the 4th draft slot, historically one of the best slots to pick from. Advantageous indeed. A name change could be in order, similar in style to the TPD name change before last season.

ShowMeYourTDs
TDs has not been able to make the playoffs since their first appearance in 2012. Their achilles heel has been their slow starts to seasons. They always close strong with a (19-11) record in games week 9 or later, but it has rarely been enough to dig out of their early season hole. They shocked the league this offseason when they willing took the 9th draft slot instead of traditionally better slots. If they can get off to a fast start they will in all likelihood make it back to the playoffs.

Tavon and Only
Tavon could not keep the momentum following a title in 2015. They carried only 2 losses into week 9 of last season, a good start, but lost 5 of 6 to close out the year. It was a disappointing finish, but their start to the season is perhaps an indication that they will continue to compete, considering they were having success after drafting from the 10th slot and with the bull’s-eye squarely on their back. Few prepare for a season as strongly as Tavon does and they will be ready come week 1. Drafting from the 6th draft slot seems ideal for this franchise's drafting schemes.

La Flama Blanca
LFB has not been able to recapture the magic over the last two seasons, after two straight championship game appearances in 2013 and 2014. A franchise widely known to offer up more contract extensions year to year than any other team, may be switching a few strategies up this season and bringing in new players after two straight disappointing seasons. Not much may need to change as they still acquired 7 wins last season. While they are a few years removed from past glory, they are but a stones throw away from returning to it. They will compete yet again this upcoming season. They have the 5th draft slot this season, a slot they won a title from in 2013.

El Pollo Loco
Loco is in desperate need of a playoff appearance. If they could get there they may just win it all. Over the course of the first 3, Loco won the consolation bracket, and the Last Man Hand Standing Trophy, each time. They almost always have late season success. After the worst season in franchise history changes may be in order from their front office. Look for Loco to learn from their mistakes and compete in 2017. They also need a serious change in luck as this squad can never catch a break from the fantasy gods. Selecting from the 3rd draft slot may be the intro catalyst.

Pryor to the Snap (name change imminent)
PttS has not been able to repeat the success akin to their West division title in 2013. Following two straight playoff appearances in 2013 and 2014, they have acquired only 9 wins in the two years since. The numbers look poor but they aren’t far removed from the success of a couple of years ago. Even last season, their draft was littered with great value picks, Terrelle Pryor (16 rd), Rishard Matthews (13 rd), Demarco Murray (6 rd). This franchise is bound to out duel their low expectations entering 2017, and knocking off some other franchises along the way is a high probability.

Imposing Monstrosity
Imposing Monstrosity is a new franchise in the MFFL. Long one of the most widely known and proud franchises across multiple fantasy football landscapes, IMP will now match their skills against the best in the world. Success in year one, in the greatest league in the world, would strike fear in the hearts of all, and prove how worthy indeed they are to battle in the MFFL. They obtained the 2nd draft slot for 2017, which should be a strong way to begin their season.

Its time to shuffle up and deal. The 2017 season approaches.
